Visit the Parthenon

There are several great website resources for traveling to Athens, Greece. Those are listed on our links page. Here is a summary of useful information when visiting the Acropolis & The Parthenon

Acropolis Information

The Acropolis is the original site of Athens, Greece, a limestone plateau supporting the Parthenon, the all-marble temple dedicated to the goddess Athena Parthenos. A landmark visible from many parts of the modern city.

In the same section are the Museum of the Acropolis (re-opened after renovation - a newer and bigger museum is on the cards), the Erechtheion with its six stone Karyatides maidens holding one side of the temple (four of the originals are in the Museum of the Acropolis and the one stolen by Lord Elgin is on display at the British Museum).

When you visit the Acropolis and the Parthenon, try to get there at opening time, to avoid crowds. The site includes the Parthenon, the museum, the Propylaea, the Erechtheion, the Temple of Nike and the Aeropagus, the rocky hill that served as the first high court.
